I am engaged to be married.

Last night I proposed marriage to Amanda, the woman I will spend the rest of my life with.

And the first words out of her mouth were “for real?” Yes, my Love, for real.

For ever.

Below is the first poem I ever wrote for Amanda:

Right Now

I know your melody in my veins
a beat in rhythm with my heart
harmonizing with my soul
giving music for the dance.

I know your laughter in my chest
a delicious chaos of seizing muscles
glittering in my eyes
giving joy a soundtrack.

I know your story in my brain
as good as witches or dragons
sparking my pen
giving redemption meaning.

* * *

I see our silhouettes standing before us
framed in tentative rose
shadows cast by a rising sun drawing toward us
as warm yellow suffuses our bodies.
