My Christmas break is almost over and soon I will return to the classroom and to work. But first, a word of thankfulness. Here are some moments I am thankful for from Christmas break:

When I got to announce the newly married Mr. and Mrs. Drew Dixon to the waiting crowd at the reception.

When Amanda opened up her gifts from me and had profound thankfulness in her eyes. I love that woman.

When Drew and I spent Christmas Day watching Frosty the Snowman, Frosty Returns, and Santa Claus is Coming to Town.

When Amanda, her parents, and I cried our way through Les Mis.

When my dad explained, in detail, the carefully selected gifts that he had brought back from his business trip to Qatar.

When my mom sat and talked to Amanda for hours, telling stories.

When my brother and I spent six straight hours in the kitchen cooking the feast for New Years’s Eve.

When we all—family and friends—sat around the Living Room with a fire roaring while we drank frozen margaritas and sang drinking songs to ring in the New Year.

When Amanda and I curled up in front of the fire and just talked.

I am thankful, more than I have ever been, for the holidays with family and friends.

My heart is steadfast.

P.S. This is part of the Thankful Tuesday series here on the blog, originally inspired by Micha Boyett.
